Asda are one of the largest retail companies in the world and are a household name in the UK. The supermarket has been supplying families with quality produce for nearly 60 years.
The challenge
ESG initiatives are now taking centre stage for many businesses, big and small, and Asda is no different. A focus has been placed on sustainability and environmental issues by the brand, and Design Junkie were tasked with producing Asda’s 2022 ESG Report.
It was a priority to present the large amount of data in an engaging format that highlighted Asda’s ESG progress and was clear and easy to understand.
We wanted to emphasise the human element of Asda’s work and to celebrate the ESG progress that had been made, so we recommended a complete refresh of existing company infographics and corporate photography.
Photography
As part of our visual production suite, we visited three key Asda locations:
- A sustainability trial store.
- Main delivery depot.
- Refrigeration warehouse.
We captured high-quality photographs of these locations, Asda colleagues at work, and products in situ across the store, depot, and storage facilities.
The resulting imagery was key for the narrative we wanted to portray within the ESG report
The solution
We worked closely with Asda’s ESG team, as well as key members of the company’s board, over a period of several months. We knew that in order for the project to be deemed a success, the report needed to look visually engaging, while looking modern and on brand.
We presented several creative concepts to Asda, before ultimately deciding on a scrapbook-inspired visual style that combined colour-coded sections, photography, infographics, and illustrations for a visually engaging experience.
We were also granted permission to access three Asda locations to capture a range of photography and video assets to be used for the project and for future corporate use.
Jason, Olivia and their colleagues at Design Junkie have been like an extension of our team, fully engaged in the project and able to articulate and translate our sometimes muddled thoughts into clear creative concepts.
